Modica to Receive 2010 Greater Rochester Award

(September 2010) -Steven Modica, founding partner of the Rochester law firm Modica & Associates, Attorneys, PLLC, will receive a 2010 Greater Rochester Award on October 22, 2010 in recognition of his volunteer work with the Upstate New York Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis ["MS"] Society. Modica is among three recipients of the Board Leadership Award.

This Award is presented to non-profit board chairmen and chairwomen who have enhanced the mission and reputation of their agencies through effective leadership, fundraising, strategic planning, community collaboration and problem solving. Modica has served on the Board of Directors of the Upstate New York Chapter of the National MS Society for several years and has been the Chair for the last year.

"I am grateful for this recognition," said Modica. "I will continue to work with our talented Board, and dedicated staff, until MS is no more."

Age Discrimination on the Rise in Rochester Area

As more adults return to workforce, officials say they see more cases of age discrimination With this major recession, age discrimination claims are rising across the country, throughout the state, and in the Rochester area.

Last year, there were 117 age discrimination complaints registered with the state Division of Human Rights from people in Rochester, Ontario and Orleans counties. That's up from 103 the previous year and 102 in 2007, when the first signs of economic slowdown were reported.

For Monroe County alone, the number of age discrimination claims filed with that state agency increased from 93 in 2008 to 105 last year. Twenty-two claims were filed in the first four months of this year.

(June 12, 2010)--Modica & Associates, Attorneys, PLLC, was a proud sponsor and volunteer in the 2010 MS Service Day.  This program was coordinated by the Upstate New York Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society  (http://www.msupstateny.org).

Steven V. Modica, Esq., founding partner of Modica & Associates, Attorneys, PLLC, was among dozens of volunteers who spent the day helping people with MS and their families by performing important home maintenance and related chores.  Steve and his team painted a large hallway and a bathroom, removed bushes, planted a rose bush and otherwise eased the burden of a single mother with MS.
